Journey to Home

by | Jan 20, 2024 | Multimedia

As a graduate in Feature Film Directing from the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography (2021), Astghik navigated her artistic journey by delving into societal complexities through film. Her debut, "September 19," drew inspiration from our post-revolution protest, spotlighting political ambiguity faced by youth. While at Order Film production, she crafted two feature-length documentaries—one centered on the renowned Soviet Armenian actor Frunzik Mkrtchyan and the other on artists Harutyun and Armine Galentz. Her latest film, "The Doll Named Lilith," addresses sex-selective abortion, emphasizing societal absurdities. Currently crafting "Umbilical Cord," a short documentary on Armenian youth, Astghik aims to unravel their multifaceted challenges, fostering a nuanced understanding of their struggles against societal expectations. Through storytelling, she actively engages with social and political themes deeply rooted in the Armenian context.

When I lose myself in daily life and within its challenges, I must always find a way out. And often I simply want to dance. And in my hands I feel the air, the wind, and an interesting journey takes place taking me from confusion until home.
